CASE STUDY: Ningaloo Whaleshark Swim

Introduction

Talk about a once in a lifetime experience. That is exactly what the passionate crew at Ningaloo Whaleshark Swim (NWS) do with holidaymakers visiting the Coral Coast of Western Australia.

As a market leading operator in the tourism industry, they wanted to showcase their whaleshark and humpback swim tours to get bookings through Facebook and Instagram advertising.

Problem

With Covid19 resulting in international travel bans and warnings, the tourism sector was presented with the uncertainty of not having any international AND interstate tourists visiting our state.

Throw away years of marketing data as this unprecedented time meant we had to think 2 steps ahead with our strategy and ensure enough sales are brought in to guarantee the longevity of the business.

Solution

We researched several key audience demographics and targeted them through the Facebook ads platform. A variety of creatives were tested to find what resonated with each audience and then we scale up high performing ones.

Retargeting ads were run to bring people back to the website. NWS is very unique in their business approach compared to other tour operators and we were sure to highlight the benefits from the customers point of view.

We also ran seasonal offers at certain points of the year to stimulate extra demand.

Results

The execution and collaboration on this campaign yielded a fantastic results. We had consistent sales month on month which saw the business come out the other end of covid in good strength. Here is what owner Matt Winter had to say:

We’d like to also thank Matthew Gherardi from Surge Marketing who has helped with the success of this campaign with his marketing strategies and collaboration. A fantastic team all round.
